Description
It consists of three knowledge development units, three practical application sessions, and four training dives. Designed for divers transitioning from recreational diving to technical diving.
The PADI Tec 40 course is where you move from recreational diving to technical diving. It is an excellent starting point because it is the first subdivision of the full PADI Tec Diver course series and bridges the gap between no-decompression diving and full technical deep decompression diving. You gain experience and begin building the knowledge and skills needed to continue your training as a Tec Diver. You will be qualified to perform limited decompression dives to 40 meters / 130 feet.
To enroll in the Tec 40 course, you must:
- Be a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
- Be a PADI Enriched Air Diver with at least 10 dives using enriched air at depths greater than 18 meters / 60 feet
- Be a PADI Deep Diver or provide proof of at least 10 dives at 30 meters / 100 feet
- Be at least 18 years old and have at least 30 logged dives
- Have a Medical Certificate signed by a physician within the last 12 months
Please note that certifications meeting the requirements from other diver training organizations may also be accepted – check with your instructor.
Academics
The Tec 40 course consists of three knowledge development units, three practical application sessions, and four training dives. You will learn the following:
- The risks and responsibilities of technical diving
- Technical diving equipment, proper rigging, and setup
- Gas planning, oxygen limits, and decompression planning
- Team technical diving and emergency procedures, such as handling free flows, multiple regulator leaks, and out-of-gas situations
